Executive Chef Jamal... Born and raised in Oujda, Morocco, Chef Mourad Jamal grew up with a love for fresh food and the desire to share it with others. At 12 years old, he was cooking dinner for the family when his Mother or Grandmother were running late. By 15, he had his first job in a restaurant prepping before lunch and dinner. He continued his work in restaurants while attending culinary school. His primary training was in Morocco, but his passion to expand his knowledge and skills took him to South Western France for a year where he mastered Classic French and Mediterranean cuisine techniques.
He graduated in 2005 with a Bachelors in Food and Tourism Management. One year later, Walt Disney World in Orlando hired Jamal as an International Chef and brought him to the United States to work in one of the best restaurants Disney has to offer, the 4 star treat known as the Jiko’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. At the completion of the program, he was awarded Top Chef out of the various countries represented under Chef Anette Grecchi. From there, he moved to Indianapolis to help Chef Jake Brenchley re-open the Scholars Inn Gourmet Café which soon became the “Best New Restaurant” and “Best Upscale Restaurant” in town.
Tired of the cold weather, he headed west to Southern California and quickly made his way up to Executive Chef at Sunset Bar and Grill, right after working under Justin Hoen at the Epazote restaurant. Today, you will find him working along side his team in the Poseidon Restaurant creating the many delicious dishes we have all come to love.
